General Security Advisory (Routine Awareness & Phishing Alert)

Dear Students / Faculty / Staff, The Office of the Information Technology is issuing this advisory to remind all members of the TUP Cavite community to remain vigilant regarding the security of your official GSFE and tup.edu.ph account. Educational email accounts are frequent targets for phishing, unauthorized credential harvesting, and spam distribution. To protect your personal data and institutional security, please follow these key guidelines: 1. Identify Phishing & Suspicious Emails Check the Sender: Always verify the full email address of the sender, not just the display name. Be Wary of Urgency: Be cautious of emails threatening immediate account suspension, demanding password verification, or offering unsolicited job/grant opportunities. Never Share Credentials: Official [School / University Name] IT personnel will never ask for your password or verification codes via email, form, or phone. 2. Secure Your GSFE Account Enable 2-Step Verification (2SV): Protect your account with an extra layer of security. Turn it on today at [myaccount.google.com/signinoptions/two-step-verification]. Use Strong Passwords: Ensure your password is unique, at least 12 characters long, and not used for external personal accounts. Review Account Activity: Periodically check your recent login locations and connected devices under your Google Account Security Dashboard. 3. Handling Suspicious Messages If you receive a suspicious email in your inbox: Do not click any links or download attachments. Report it directly in Gmail by clicking the three vertical dots (⋮) next to the Reply button and selecting Report phishing. Forward the email to tupc.uitc@tup.edu.ph for investigation. Thank you for your cooperation in maintaining a safe digital campus environment. Sincerely, OIT / UITC
